Theatre Games – Slow Motion Race

So .. theatre games? Love them - or don't see the point? I LOVE them. If you have a group that meets regularly and you want them to learn how to work together, improve performance skills, gain confidence and awareness on stage, you need to play games. The word 'games' conjures up an activity that is designed to amuse us. Ok, we may be aware that on some level we're being tested, but generally you can find a game where to 'play' doesn't take too much effort (or you could just opt to lose if you really can't be bothered). Watch out for sneaky ghosts …

Gorgeous Gerald and the Ghost is short sketch (around 15 minutes) in rhyme and is one of my favourites. It can be dramatised with all the characters taking lines, it can be dramatised with one or more readers and characters acting out the tale, it can be read as a poem, told as a story, you could sing it if you wanted to. It's part of the collection known as 'Perilous Tales' due the astonishing amount of peril it contains. Gorgeous Gerald is gorgeous (as you might expect) and he knows it...

What Inspiration?

I just sat down at my computer, I looked at the blog wondering what I might write tonight and casually clicked on the category 'inspiration' (next to 'soapbox'). It seemed like the right thing to do. Bring children to see Beauty & the Beast!

Not so much an order as a strong suggestion borne out of a great love for ‘children’s stories’ and much less love for the dumbing down of children’s stories…. What am I talking about?
