THE SCRIPT STORE

At the SCRIPT STORE we specialise in scripts for youth theatres and schools and we make it easy for you to buy everything you need in one go – script, performing rights, backing tracks, scores and anything else you might need.

Anyone can put their scripts on The Script Store to sell on. We aren’t publishers – you don’t need to go through a process of submitting your plays for approval. It’s really easy… Easy to sell and easy to buy.

Why do we do this – are we mad?

After years of running a youth theatre and writing and directing many plays I (personally) have a lot of material to share. I’ve been successfully self-publishing through Offbeat Theatre and became aware that others were either doing the same or would like to, but didn’t have the know-how. So, The Script Store was created to act as a marketplace for other writers as well. There are a few of us on board now – please check us out!

Visit THE SCRIPT STORE if:
You are a WRITER of plays for YOUNG PEOPLE looking to sell your work
You are a DIRECTOR, LEADER, TEACHER or PRODUCER and would like to browse the plays and musicals we have available

OFFBEAT THEATRE PLAYS

It’s true, you can buy these at the SCRIPT STORE. But they’re our plays and we like to shout about them! So, here we are… shouting.

Many plays have been created by Offbeat Theatre sibling writers Barbara Hockley and Rob Hockley. They don’t write together (perish the thought), but the force of inherited surreal nonsense is strong  in these two. And they don’t muck about when it comes to surreal nonsense. Which, I believe, is the correct way to process surreal nonsense – without mucking about.

About as silly as you can get and sometimes a bit dark…

PLAYS by ROB HOCKLEY

PERUSE ROB’S PAGE ON THE SCRIPT STORE

Rob is a stage and screen writer and his plays have won awards both for Rob, (War and Cake won Highly Commended in the 2014 Trinity International Playwriting Competition), and for youth companies entering One Act competitions. They are great for one act competitions (did I mention that?). VERY quirky and EXTREMELY funny.
Written for small – medium groups of teenagers. Exploding Dad is a sketch, Darkness in the Night, War and Cake and Seeing Things are one act plays (great for competitions).

This play is hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed reading every sentence. Genuinely laugh out loud funny. (War and Cake)

PLAYS by BARBARA HOCKLEY

EXPLORE BARBARA’S PAGE ON THE SCRIPT STORE

Barbara has lots of plays for schools and youth theatres, some are available to buy and perform – and, to our delight, they have proved very popular over the years! Other plays exist, but are in need of ‘tweaking’ prior to publishing. They may, or may not, reach post-tweaking stage. It’s a perilous process, but, we’ll try. Her plays are very surreal and completely off-the-wall. Funny, moving and often based on the role of of storytelling and dreams in our lives (a favourite place to explore).
With Greg Swinford creating wonderful music, Barbara has also penned a couple of musicals. One for ages 7+ (written for a Leavers’ Gala) and the other is an ‘Alice’ adaptation – for anyone at all…

Wow! Our big problem now is how to follow it! Our Year 6 children loved Spy School. (Spy School: The Seventh Department. A musical)
